Things I used to think when I was younger
Book Review: Slaughterhouse-Five
"Listen: Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time"
Kurt Vonnegut Jr's 1969 novel Slaughter-House Five ( or The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death), it about a World War II veteran named Billy Pilgrim who has become "unstuck" in time, and he travels between various time periods of his life. Also he "travels" to a planet called Tralfamadore, which is inhabited by aliens called Tralfamadorians, who can see in 4 dimensions, and have an interesting concept of time. Their way of seeing time is described as "seeing all time as you might see a stretch of the Rocky Mountains." Because of this they see death as a trivial thing since in all the other times they are alive and well, which coined the phrase in the book, "So it goes."
This is a great, creative, and thought provoking book. Even though the book is narrated by Vonnegut himself, we get a clear insight into the life and thoughts of Billy Pilgrim. Billy's actually my favorite character in the novel, because despite his experiences in the war, he is very innocent.
I like seeing his flashbacks from various points in time, but my favorite is probably when he imagines Tralfamadore (Which is basically how he copes with the horrors he faced in a POW camp.)
I recommend this book, as it has a thrilling tale and it's fun to see things through the eyes of Billy Pilgrim

What would it be like to be "Unstuck" in time?
"Listen: Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time" (23)
That's the first line of the first real, non prologue chapter of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter-House Five. (Also known as The Children's Crusade).
Ever since I read the book rather recently, I've been thinking of the concept of becoming "unstuck" in time. I am aware that Billy's mind made up Tralfamdore and being "unstuck" in time to cope with the feelings he had while in a prisoner of war camp, and the war in general. Being "unstuck" is just how he handles the flashbacks, which are a common symptom of PTSD.
I've just been curious what it would be like to be "unstuck"
Out of this curiosity I've tried it before. I had decided a time to come "unstuck" in:
My mom and I were at Manards, in the lumber yard area to get some wood for her garden. We were in her big red truck, a pack of Lifesaver mints on the console. On the radio "Down with the Sickness" was playing close to silent. There were tons of piles of wood around. I sat there, waiting, and took another mint.
I think this blog post can be summed up from the quote from the book, "It is so short, and and jumbled, and jangled" (19)

Things found in the Black & White Game Folder
This one doesn't deal with game play of the game Black & White, as much as it does for stuff found in the game's files.
So far nothing interesting, except some fonts. Here are two of them.
There's a .wav file called Intro, and it has a rather spooky sound that kinda hurts my ears.
I found something interesing in the ReadMe regarding Creatures
"---------------------
9. Creature Homepages
---------------------
Black & White allows you to publish webpages containing all the information about your Creature. This information is continuously updated by the game and stored on your local machine.
You can upload your pages for other people to view by using the CreatureUpload.exe application. These Creature pages are hosted as part of the bwgame Creature Page hosting service (www.bwGame.com) and community pages.
There is an external application called "CreatureUpload.exe" (the default directory for this will be c:\Program Files\Lionhead Studios Ltd\Black & White\), which allows you to upload your Creature info..
To use this service, you MUST be registered at www.bwgame.com (and therefore have a username and user password). In addition, you must have played at least once over the Internet or entered your registration details into the "over the Internet user details" dialog box in Black & White. You MUST also have a Creature.
After successfully uploading you can view your Creature page at:
http://www.YOURREGISTRATIONNAME.bwcreatures.com
or http://www.bwcreatures.com/YOURREGISTRATIONNAME
Where YOURREGISTRATIONNAME is the name you chose when registering online.
The images and information about your Creature are also stored on your hard disk. You can access this information by opening the "html directory" in your profile directory (.\Profiles\Myregistrationname\html) . This html page is template based, so you may change it. This does not change your Creature data however.
It is a normal HTML file with same special keywords which gets parsed whilst creating the Creature html file. So anybody with basic HTML skills can create their own template file.
Please note: You cannot upload this offline version to the bwgame Creature pages.
If you want to upload the offline generated Creature HTML page to your own webpages, using the default/shipped template file, you may have to change the path of the images. This can be done at the top of the Creatures html page (source of file)."
Lastly here are some icons. My guess is that they are used to choose which icon you want for your shortcut of the game.

My favorite Game of all time
My favorite game of all time is the 2001 LionHead game Black & White (As well as the expansion pack Creature Isle, which could be argued to be a different game all together.) It's a rather old game, having come out in 2001 before Windows XP was released.
In this game you play as a God, and on the first land you look after a village called Eden.
There are other Biblical and Religion references in the game. Like in Creature Isle, the mystery creature is named Eve.
You're not alone on your journey as a God, you have your own little pet known as your creature. You can choose between a Cow, Ape, and Tiger. The Ape being the smartest and the cow being the least bright of the three. The creatures were always one of my favorite parts of the game.
One of the things I love about Black & White is despite it's age it's got great little details.
If you zoom in on the barrel by the village store, you can see a little worm wiggling inside the apple.
It looks like a lot of love and care was put into these bricks inside the temple. Also kudos to the simple yet beautiful mural above the scroll.
The creature cave has a paradise sort of feel and I love it.
I feel I need to make a new post entirely to show the beauty of this room.
Through out the game you use vortexes to get to new lands
This post serves as kind of an intro. I intend to make quite a few Blakc & White posts for the time being, as it's hard for me to think of blog ideas and I get into a rut in terms of post ideas. So I write about things I enjoy. I might make posts in between posts of this game, or maybe not even post a new one for a while. I'm not sure how it'll go down.
